課程目標
The course discusses the fundamentals of continuum mechanics and the continuum theory of plasticity. An integrated course on these two subjects facilitates the learning of materials covered. The course prepares students for pursuing either research related to mechanical behaviors of engineering materials or developmental work in the engineering analysis and design, resulting in the efficient usage of materials. Students learn fundamental concepts such as deformation, rate of deformation, and stress of a material element undergoing large deformation and material modeling using these quantities. It is not the purpose of the course to discuss boundary-valued problems. These problems are fully discussed by courses of computational mechanics. One of the major goals is to discuss the plastic deformation, which is the deformation beyond the elastic limit.

Due to tremendous advances in computer technologies, the computational power doubles and redoubles in a short time. In the near future, there will be demand for refinements of material models used in the computation and design. What is acceptable today will no longer be acceptable in the near future. This course prepares students to meet the challenge.
 
課程要求
Mechanics of Deformable Bodies (or Strength of Materils) and Engineering Mathematics. Graduate students (MS and PhD) of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Mechanics are encouraged to take the course.
